Mr. Iain McLaughlin-Symon MBChB, MRCS (Eng), FRCS (Tr+Orth)
Iain is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising exclusively in the treatment of hand and wrist conditions with a keen interest in the management of arthritis, Dupuytren’s disease, sports injuries including keyhole surgery, wide awake surgery, soft tissue and nerve problems.
Providing patient care as an NHS consultant at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, Iain also consults privately at BMI The Alexandra Hospital, Cheadle and at South Manchester Diagnostics, Stockport.
Iain graduated from the University of Manchester in 2007 and went on to complete his higher surgical orthopaedic training in the North West before completing prestigious fellowships in orthoplastic hand surgery at the world renowned Pulvertaft Hand Centre and Wrightington Upper Limb Unit.
With a strong belief in the importance of maintaining a practice that is at the forefront of hand and wrist surgery, Iain takes an active involvement in medical research, having worked with the Oxford Upper Limb collaborative, the University of Central Lancashire and the Centre for Evidence Based Hand Surgery at the University of Nottingham to develop research trials and publications.
Iain has published his work in multiple peer reviewed journals and has presented at both national and international conferences including a prize-winning podium presentation at the Wrightington Gold Medal Research Day. He is currently a member of both the British Society for Surgery of the Hand and the North West Hand Society.
Iain has a keen interest in medical education and has worked as an examiner for the University of Manchester and as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Salford. He has been invited as faculty on multiple regional and national courses and takes an active involvement in the teaching and training of junior doctors including the provision of the Hand Surgery teaching module for North West trainees.
Living in south Manchester, Iain enjoys going out exploring the Peak district with his family and enjoys keeping fit and watching rugby union (when he gets the chance!).
